20 million people in the US are overweight and do not have to be. Why? Well because they have low thyroid function and do not even know it.

You see the most common symptom of low thyroid function (hypothyroidism) is the unexpected weight gain. What we mean by the unexpected weight gain is when you get bigger without changing diet or lifestyle and do not know why.

Why low thyroid function lead to weight gain?

The problem with hypothyroidism is it slows down many body systems, including your metabolism. Your metabolism determines how quickly you burn calories that enter your body. So when it slows you do not burn calories so fast.

The net effect is these calories then become stored as fat and you gain weight. Your own body is literally stop you from losing weight and you want to know the kicker?

Well low thyroid function is difficult to diagnose and a number of symptoms that can occur when people have problems with their thyroid. In addition to further complicate people emission may experience these symptoms to varying degrees. So what happens?

Often people are misdiagnosed and therefore the underlying problem (their thyroid) are not taken into account and they remain sick, continue to gain weight and this can often lead to loss of confidence and depression.
